Cleaning up the trash in our communities, going Green

Published 5 months, 3 weeks ago by Rob Abbott

I just returned from SXSW in Austin, TX. It was great to see friends and colleagues that I hadn’t connected with in a long time. There was a record attendance of about 8,000 people. Amazing number, but that meant there was 8,000 SXSW Conference Bags waiting to be handed out. SXSW 2008 Bag LitterSXSW needs to set an example by going Green with the SXSW Conference. The clean up in Austin after the Interactive, Music and Film festivals must be enormous. The SXSW Bags were packed filled with sponsored inserts, like Magazines, white-papers, flyers, schwag…and many other useless and environmentally unfriendly items. For the record, I didn’t pickup a bag primarily for this reason. Conference bags are a waste, and a terrible solution to sponsor advertising, it’s a bad idea and seemingly bad for sponsor ROI. Reasons like this, is why I am pledging to go Green with my new venture. It is time we either give back or do our part in cleaning up our communities and the environment. Paper and Useless Crap, NO MORE!SXSW change for Green!!!rob.
