If you know me well, then you understand how much music is a part of my life. I am constantly searching for new exceptional songs and artists. It’s sort of my fuel for when I am running or working out at the gym. My music is with me everywhere I go.
When I was around the age of 9, my neighbor who was about 8 or 9 years older gave me a cassette tape the week he left for college. On it was Aerosmiths greatest hits. I had made a habit of going over to his house after school to play basketball and listen to his stories of high school life. He would always play their songs and I grew to like the music, especially after he explained some of the songs. It was the first music I ever remember listening to, which when I look back is pretty amazing considering it’s complexity.
Zach Braff who is an extraordinary artist has managed to score his last two movies gracefully. He wrote, starred and directed Garden State. “You’ve got to hear this one song. It’ll change your life,” says Sam, Natalie Portman’s character in the movie. Most of the soundtrack is reflective of this line in the movie. You won’t find yourself drifting away from Zach’s mix tape. The song “Let Go” by Frou Frou comes towards the end of the soundtrack and is as refreshing and enchanting as the first song and all in between.
Colin Hay’s “I just don’t think I’ll ever get over you” leads into my favorite song on the album, “Blue Eyes” by the Cary Brothers. The emotive transitions take you through a world of musical highs and exquisite emotions.
To score and direct a movie so well is a distinctive quality and the nature of a true artist.
His work on the “mix” of The Last Kiss possesses a mature introspective flavor that is ambitious and delves deep into the heart of life’s conflicts and complexity.

That song makes it harder to get over anyone. I had a hard time getting over that song, alone!
As for “The Last Kiss,” see the Italian original, “Ultimo Baccio.” I have yet to see the remake and it is everywhere here in Shanghai, but the Italian version really twists the guts of relativity almost leaving one cynical. I just saw “The Painted Veil” (2006) and that was a good one… I happen to also love the author whose book it is based off of. My favorite at the moment, “The Razor’s Edge.”
