eBay Developers Program API GetSearchResults example in Flash

Published 2 years, 7 months ago by Rob Abbott

Back in October of 2004 eBay was a gold sponsor at Macromedia MAX in New Orleans. We were there to promote our Developers Program and eBay APIs to the developer community. Jeffrey McManus, who at that time was our Director of the eBay Developers Program had asked me to put together a Flash example using the API. Jeffrey a “Ninja” like human of many talents and vision pointed me in the direction of replicating the eBay Search Results.

The example was presented at MAX and then the source was posted on our developers program website. As with many prototypes its life was short lived. I came across it in my archive last month and started playing around with it again. The first thing I noticed was the horrific mess of AS I had thrown together to make it work. Naturally it is the first item I plan on cleaning up.

The example also uses the legacy API and that needs updating as well, but in the mean time take a look at the old eBay API GetSearchResults - Flash Search Results (link removed) example I built for Macromedia MAX 2004.

FYI: This example is very buggy, some of the functionality is broken (i.e. Time Left), so enjoy! ;o)

This example actually found its way into an actual commercial site and it leveraged my CellRenderer mod as well as the thumbnail code I had commented out in the V2 DataGrid.

The thought was to place an eBay Buying Experience on the Desktop using application interactions, local resource access, personal settings, powerful functionality, and rich interactive experiences. All the characteristics of a Rich Internet Application for the desktop. […]
